How to set up VPN Unlimited
for a QNAP backup device
QNAP devices act as a personal cloud, and provide macOS users with a solution to back up, store and share personal data, like photos, video and audio files. QNAP lets you access your data from any spot of the Earth through the internet. To ensure your data is safe, additional security measures should be applied. It is highly recommended to run a VPN service as a tool to protect your data while you are using your QNAP device.
This guide covers the detailed steps on how to set up VPN Unlimited for your QNAP device, using PPTP connection.
The very first step to take in configuring your QNAP device to work with our service is receiving the manual configuration set. In this regard, please contact our support team at [email protected]
Note: It is suggested to use the very same email address as the one you use for signing up at our website. If it is not convenient for you, no problem. But please, let our support personnel know your account-associated email, otherwise it will be difficult for them to help you.
While you absolutely can contact them via Facebook or even Twitter, we strictly do NOT suggest it for configuration requests. They will need exactly to mail files to you.
Sign in to your QNAP device at www.myqnapcloud.com
After you signed in, it is a time to configure a VPN connection.
Navigate to Control Panel → Applications → VPN Client.
In the VPN Client tab, hit Add and choose PPTP.
At this stage, you will need the data you have received from our support team, i.e. user name, password, and server address.
Input the following data in the Create VPN Connection screen:
- Profile Name: Type a name of your choice
- Server Address: Paste your desired server name
- Username: Paste a user name
- Password: Paste a password
- Authentication: MS-CHAPv2
- Encryption: High (AES 128 bit)
- Set the checkbox for “Use default gateway on remote network”.
- Set the checkbox for “Reconnect when the VPN connection is lost”.
Note: Profile name has no significant impact on the process; this is the name you give to the connection for your own convenience.
Now, click Apply to finish.
If you what to change the location, please repeat the above steps with a new server address that is available in the configuration set.
Well done! You have successfully dealt with the VPN setup on your QNAP device!
